XLIV

The cars that went left thundered down a tunnel with minimal lighting. A gun fight began. On the roof of every car popped up a head and a gun. Windows were punctured, cars swerved, bullets clattered the road.
Niss landed on her seat. “Why don’t you try and get to the front Dad?”
“I can’t promise anything,” answered Fidor.
Some people had started to poke out of the sides and fire at the enemy. Fidor’s sports car swerved along and narrowly overtook at the very sides of the tunnel. He suddenly shoved another car with such force that it tipped, span round and hit the tunnel wall. One other car crashed into this car, now on its roof.

The cars that swerved right thundered through a deserted neighbourhood of old houses. The few people wandering around on the road had to jump out of the way. Gunfights began here as well. Siren was able to shoot a car with a machine gun enough times to make something catch fire, making the said car veer off the road and skid to a halt with a big bump.
Manira dodged every hazard easily. Out of nowhere, she heard ritual whispers. She tried to work what it was she heard. She realised with wide eyes and skidded to an abrupt halt. Many cars behind her suddenly skidded and one bumped into Scythe’s car. A purple ray came from a speeding car ahead, hit an unfortunately fast car on the bonnet, making it launch into the air and span as quickly as a launched toy car.
Every person in Scythe’s car had the look of fear on their faces. They saw the spinning car crash into the second storey of a building nearby.
“Lona was in that car,” told Kiyor in a hushed shock.
“I didn’t know you could do that Manar,” said Scythe. “Vampires sense spells.”
She started the car up. “I can do it too when my adrenaline’s high enough.”
Scythe’s mobile went off. He answered it and heard the voice of his brother: “We need a plan.”

The end of the tunnel was approaching. Fidor’s car sped alongside the leading car of Kron’s Sect and bumped into it. It almost veered off but the car saved itself and bumped Fidor’s car in vicious vengeance. They passed through the tunnel exit, giving Fidor room to save himself by skidding the car 90 degrees and launching into the side of the enemy car with full force. The two cars uncontrollably rammed into the side of a glass skyscraper, making cracks appear in the wall around the ruined car of Kron’s Sect.
Fidor’s car had also halted abruptly from the force. He looked around. “Everyone okay?”
The groaning passengers nodded their heads. Another car bashed passed them, smashing into the boot. This made the still car spin round as the other cars sped past. A gunfight had started up again. Fidor started up the car and rejoined the lines of cars.
This gunfight was more vicious than the last one. Some of the younger Vilkons were daring enough to walk on the tops of cars. They seemed rather obsessive. Some were shot and fell off. One was knocked off the top of the car by the car behind bumping into it. He was no doubt run over once he landed on the tarmac.
They were right now in a modern part of Vangelion. During the day, it was a place where many Light Citizens flocked to shop. The cars raced through the mostly empty streets. Sensibly, the shooters who had walked on the tops of cars sat themselves back down inside.
Sassaren gave an order to her son behind her. “Send a message to everyone Korat. Everyone shoot the tyres of Kron’s cars.”
He quickly typed the message on his mobile and sent off the text.

Along the old street the cars moved in formations. Each car-of Sassaren’s Sect-moved into a checked pattern of one car each side. When a purple ray shot out, the cars changed formation to all the cars on the left side. Every third car moved out to the middle. When another purple ray shot out, everyone quickly joined the line on the right. This time, every second car came into the middle.
Scythe’s mobile suddenly went off. He read the text. ‘Everyone shoot the tyres on Kron’s cars-Korat’. He raised an eyebrow.
One of Kron’s cars appeared on the left. When the purple ray appeared, all of the cars in formation went to the right. The ray hit one of Kron’s own cars. This car plummeted into the air and ricocheted left and right off each side. It landed on the road roof down.
Scythe got another text, which said: ‘Ignore the last text we stick to the plan.’
When a yellow ray appeared, the line of cars veered straight to the left and charged forward. Gunfights started up again. Walls, tyres and doors were punctured. One bullet penetrated a door and shot into Scythe’s side. If he suffered any pain, he didn’t show it. Not only were there gunfights now but there were also ramming battles. Cars veered and skidded along roads widely and dangerously, some even bounced off the sides of buildings.
